Portion of Congers Lake Trailway Remains Closed Indefinitely Due to Safety Concerns
A section of the Congers Lake Trailway remains closed indefinitely due to ongoing safety concerns, Town of Clarkstown officials announced in an update.
The affected portion, located between markers 47 and 54, was initially closed after structural issues were identified with the boardwalk. Officials say several aging pilings beneath the walkway have shifted and separated from the deck, creating a potential hazard.
Over the past several weeks, the Town has been assessing the extent of the damage and exploring both temporary and long-term repair solutions. However, officials noted that the project is complex and requires permits from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC).
The Town is currently working with state agencies to expedite the permitting process, but due to the length of the approval timeline, no reopening date has been set.
In the meantime, visitors are urged to follow posted detour signs near the dam and Beckerle Lumber.
Town officials say updates will continue to be provided as progress is made on the repair and reopening efforts.
