Piermont Fire Department Holds Hands-On “Man vs. Machine” Training
By Y.M. Lowy
Members of the Piermont Fire Department took part in a hands-on “Man vs. Machine” training exercise at the firehouse in the Village of Piermont on Tuesday.
The training focused on real-life rescue situations where a person’s limb becomes trapped in machinery. Firefighters practiced multiple techniques for safely removing entrapped limbs from equipment such as snowblowers, lawnmowers, meat grinders, and conveyor belt rollers. Ring removal techniques were also reviewed as part of the drill.
This type of training is critical, especially during winter months and in settings where heavy machinery is commonly used. The goal is to reduce further injury while freeing a trapped patient as quickly and safely as possible.
The Piermont Fire Department praised its members for their commitment to ongoing training, noting that exercises like these help ensure responders are prepared for any complex emergencies that arise.
