"Paws at the Peppermill" Raises Money for Rockland's K9s

"Paws at the Peppermill" Raises Money for Rockland's K9s

by M.C. Millman

Spike's K9 Fund teamed up with the Peppermill South, The Law Office of Heather M. Nappi, PC, and the Rockland County Police Departments to raise money for K9s.

The event began at the Veterans Memorial Association Field in Congers. It then continued at the Peppermill South in the afternoon. The fundraiser included live K9 demos by Suffern PD K9 unit Officer Ingui and Thorn, along with other area K9s. There was also great food, music, and exciting raffles. The Peppermill South donated a portion of all food and drink sales to the fundraiser.

K9s provide an invaluable tool for law enforcement; however, the upkeep of K9s is costly. Some local governments have difficulty funding all the training, medical care, and safety equipment for their police department's K9s.

Jimmy Hatch, a retired Special Warfare Operator and founder of Spike's K9 fund, named the fund after his military K9, Spike. Spike tragically died in a 2006 firefight in Iraq. The fund helps provide custom-fit ballistic vests, protective equipment, medical cost assistance, and access to top-of-the-line training programs.
