Nyack Adopts Climate Vulnerability and Adaptation Plan

Nyack Adopts Climate Vulnerability and Adaptation Plan

By Y.M. Lowy

The Village of Nyack has formally adopted a Climate Vulnerability and Adaptation Plan.

The Adaptation Plan builds on the Nyack Climate Action Plan completed in 2025 and is designed to guide how the community prepares for increasingly severe weather conditions, including stronger storms, heat waves, and climate-related health risks. Together, the two plans focus on both reducing greenhouse gas emissions and strengthening the village’s ability to respond to local environmental challenges.

Key priorities outlined in the plan include improving emergency preparedness and communication, expanding cooling and warming options during extreme temperatures, investing in resilient infrastructure and green spaces, improving building efficiency, and strengthening coordination with town, county, and regional partners.

Implementation of the plan will be guided by annual reviews, public reporting, and efforts to secure funding and technical assistance.
