The National DWI Crackdown ran from December 14, 2022, through New Year's Day on Sunday, January 1, 2023, and was aimed at stopping reckless and impaired drivers before they could cause tragedies on the road. 453 people were arrested by the State Troopers for DWI during this time, the holiday season, which usually sees an uptick in accidents related to DWI.

New York State Police Acting Superintendent Steven A. Nigrelli says, "Through our recent enforcement efforts, as well as the work Troopers do on a daily basis, we have made our roadways safer for the public."

Many of these summonses and arrests were made using sobriety checkpoints and additional patrols specifically aimed at drunk and distracted drivers. 11,305 tickets were given for speeding, 912 for distracted driving (i.e. cellphones), and 916 seatbelt violations were ticketed.

Residents of the Lower Hudson Valley received 4,122 of the tickets during this crackdown.
