Northbound Trans Manhattan Connector Ramp to Close Nights Starting Wednesday

By Y.M. Lowy

Rockland Daily previously reported on the first stage of long-awaited repairs to the Trans Manhattan Expressway, a notorious stretch for drivers heading across the George Washington Bridge into New York City. The area has long been known for its deep potholes and frequent tire blowouts. The project came after Chaverim of Brooklyn urged the city to fix the problem. Volunteers had responded to countless roadside calls in the area.

In that first phase, work focused on repaving the southbound lanes of the Trans Manhattan Connector Ramp. The new phase will now cover the northbound lanes, continuing the same project on the opposite side of the roadway.

Starting Wednesday, November 12, through Friday, November 21, the NYC Department of Transportation will continue milling and paving the northbound Trans Manhattan Expressway Connector Ramp from the Harlem River Drive to the George Washington Bridge and Amsterdam Avenue.

All work will take place overnight, Monday through Friday, from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. During these hours, northbound traffic will be shifted onto a single southbound lane. All lanes will reopen daily from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

The Harlem River Drive and Amsterdam Avenue ramp will remain open, though drivers should expect single-lane and full closures in the southbound direction at various times throughout the project.
