New York State Thruway Going After Unpaid Thruway Tolls

By Y.M. Lowy
The New York State Thruway Authority is going after $70 million in unpaid tolls from last year. While most drivers pay, a small percentage rack up huge debts, sometimes even hundreds of thousands of dollars. Three companies alone owe more than $1 million combined.
Now, the Thruway Authority is suing some of the worst offenders. Executive Director Frank Hoare says skipping tolls is like stealing and hurts the system.
To crack down even further, New York is working on deals with New Jersey and Pennsylvania to suspend registrations for frequent toll dodgers, just like it already does with Massachusetts.
