The New York State Police announced the addition of new Ford Mustang GT patrol vehicles to its fleet, as part of an effort to strengthen traffic enforcement and improve safety on roadways across the state.

A total of 19 Mustangs have been acquired, including one prototype that has already been used for training and evaluation. Initial deployment is set to begin this week in Troop G, which covers the Capital Region, with additional vehicles expected to be rolled out statewide in the coming weeks.

Officials said the remaining vehicles are currently being outfitted with emergency lighting, communication systems, and other necessary safety equipment before entering active service.

State Police Superintendent Steven G. James said the new vehicles are intended to provide troopers with more effective tools while carrying out traffic enforcement duties, while continuing the agency’s broader mission of protecting the public.
