New Hashavas Aveidah Center in New Square

New Hashavas Aveidah Center in New Square

By C.G. Hoffman

New Square is no stranger to Chesed in all of its forms, and the mitzvah of returning lost items is no exception.

For years, the Holtzler family dedicated themselves to running their efficient Lost and Found Center on Eisenhower Street. They started small, gathering misplaced items often left behind in schools and Cheder, and then displaying them at school meetings. After the amount of lost items grew exponentially, they devoted themselves to reuniting lost items with their owners, sometimes tracking down people as far as London or Eretz Yisrael.

Now, the Ungar family has dedicated themselves to continuing their legacy by opening a new, efficient Hashavas Aveidah Center on Zitomir Street. Lost items come in from Shul, Wedding Halls and anywhere else around town and are immediately entered into the system, making it easier than ever to claim lost items. After a period of three months, items are sold, rendering another service to the community. Hundreds of items are put up for sale to the community at bargain prices, rendering the organization self-sufficient.

The organization uses a sophisticated system to try to track down owners of lost items, even when there is no name or phone number. The new facility is spacious and meticulously organized, making it easy for anyone to find their lost items. Umbrellas, baby clothes, even jewelry! If you lost something, you’re very likely to find it here!

Last week, the Unger family had the honor of welcoming the children of the Skver'e Rebbe who visited the new facility to wish brachos for this special zechus.

The new Center is located at 8 Zitomir Street, and they can be reached at 845-354-7405.
