New City Fire Department Mourns the Loss of Former President Michael Flannery

The New City Fire Department is mourning the passing of Michael Flannery, a Past President and Life Member, who passed away on February 3rd at the age of 85.

Michael Flannery joined the New City Fire Department in October 1976 and quickly became a cornerstone of the organization. Over the years, he played a vital role in various fire company committees, including Fire Prevention, Annual Dinner, and Public Relations.

In 1993 and 1994, Flannery served a two-year term as the fire company’s President, remembered for his quiet leadership and unwavering dedication to both the department and the New City community.

Beyond his contributions to the fire service, Michael had a distinguished career in communications, working with New York Telephone, Bell Atlantic, NYNEX, and Verizon before retiring. He and his wife, Betty, eventually relocated to Florida, where they resided until his passing.

Funeral services for Michael Flannery will be held on March 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Saint John the Evangelist Church in Viera, Florida, followed by interment at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery.

The New City Fire Department extends its deepest condolences to Betty Flannery and the entire Flannery family during this difficult time. Michael Flannery’s friendly smile, quiet demeanor, and lifelong commitment to service will not be forgotten.
