New City Fire Department Bids Farewell to Ex-Chief James Avaras

By Rockland Daily Staff

In a poignant ceremony yesterday, the New City Fire Department gathered to pay their final respects to Ex-Chief James Avaras, expressing profound gratitude to all who supported and assisted during this somber occasion.

Neighboring fire departments stood in solidarity, ensuring coverage for the district throughout the day, ready to respond to any fire calls as the community mourned. Representatives from various local fire departments, including the FDNY and New City Volunteer Ambulance Corps, joined in paying their respects, either in person or by attending the firematic service.

Clarkstown Police Department assisted in traffic control during the funeral procession. At the cemetery entrance, the Cold Spring Fire Company and Garrison Volunteer Fire Company provided a touching final salute and flag detail, honoring Chief Avaras's service and dedication to our community.
