Multiple Rescues Required At Croton Dam Park Last Week

By Idy Perl
The iconic Croton Dam is a popular destination for locals to enjoy on a pleasant afternoon, but the park saw two incidents last week that required the assistance of fire fighters.
On Sunday the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department was called to the dam for a person stuck in the water near the spillway of the dam. Westchester Police were called to the scene as well and were able to get a flotation device to the man before the firefighters were on scene. Once the firefighters arrived one of their swimmers got into the water and helped the victim out to safety, where he was evaluated by EMS and released.
On Wednesday evening the fire department received another call, this time about a teenager with an injured leg who was on the trail going from Croton Dam Road down to the Croton Gorge Park. Crew and equipment were lowered down the steep path using a rope system, and the victim was put into a Stokes Basket before being carried off the rocky path and transferred to EMS with non-serious injuries.
