Multiple Fire Departments Fight Brush Fire At Rockland Lake

By Idy Perl

Yesterday morning several local fire departments and emergency service teams faught a large brush fire that broke out by Rockland Lake.

Fire departments from Congers, Valley Cottage, Nyack, Clarkstown, and Piermont responded to the scene to aid in fighting the blaze. The Piermont Fire Department deployed several boats to the scene and divers went into the water to assist with getting the water hose lines to the shore. Other firefighters went into the wooded area where the fire was and fought to contain the flames and prevent damage to surrounding properties. Heavy smoke was felt in the neighborhood near the lake.

After battling the flames for around 5 hours they were able to successfully put out the fire with minimum damage and no reported injuries. An investigation is ongoing to find the cause for the fire.
