Moshe Engel Launches Bid for Tallman Fire Commissioner

By Y.M. Lowy

Montebello resident Moshe Engel has entered the race for Tallman Fire Commissioner, citing long response times and a need for stronger volunteer recruitment as key reasons for his candidacy.

Engel, who has been active with Monsey Fire Communications and regularly attends board meetings, says Tallman often relies on neighboring departments due to delays. He supports creating an exterior-only firefighter program to make volunteering more accessible and is calling for the retirement of the district’s outdated fire bell system, which he says is unnecessary and a frequent source of complaints. He also argues for improved mutual aid practices, emphasizing that the nearest available units should be called immediately during major incidents.

After months of attending district meetings, Engel says he is ready to step in and work with district leadership to improve reliability if elected.

The election will take place December 9, and Engel is urging residents to participate.
