Monsey Firefighters Awarded for Heroic Actions Credited with Saving Two Lives

This past September, at the 113th Rockland County Volunteer Firefighters Association, the Monsey Fire Department was awarded the Joseph K Wright Unit Citation for events that transpired on May 12th 2025 in which the heroic actions saved the lives of two construction workers who had severe injuries as a result of a fall.

Evan Humphrey, president of the Rockland County Volunteer Firefighters Association, formally presented the citation to the members of the Monsey fire department at an event on Thursday evening. “This is a prestigious award they are receiving,” Mr. Humphrey told Rockland Daily.

“As firefighters, we train for thousands of hours so we can save lives, in many types of emergencies. However, there are some skills we rarely use, because thank-God we do not come across these horrible incidents often.

“In this case, we had dozens of firefighters from the Brewer Fire Engine Company (Monsey FD) who conducted two different rescues on the same day within a couple of hours of each other.

This Department may never encounter these types of calls again, and this county could potentially never encounter these calls again.

“But on that day the firefighters of the Brewer Fire Engine Company were prepared and ready to preform these difficult rescues which led to the lives of two individuals being saved,” he said.
