Massive Wildfire Forces Evacuations in Warwick as Blaze Intensifies

By Rockland Daily Staff

The massive wildfire in Greenwood Lake which has been raging for a full week, has dramatically worsened in the past few hours, spreading uncontrollably and threatening nearby residences.

On-scene emergency units have urgently requested reinforcements from surrounding areas to help contain the fire.

The situation has escalated to the point where residents in its path are being evacuated for their safety. Warwick Supervisor Jesse Dwyer issued the following official statement:

URGENT UPDATE

Residents on Edgemere Avenue are being requested to evacuate at this time. Residents north of 42 Edgemere may evacuate by their personal vehicles. However, residents from 32 to 42 Edgemere will be provided transportation out by a Warwick Dial a Bus.

The evacuation site will be the Greenwood Lake Middle School located at 1247 Lakes Rd. Pets are welcome at the shelter.

Please be advised, there is time to leave. However, we will have to move much more fire apparatus into the area, and we do not want too much congestion if things get worse.

Residents of Wah Ta Wah continue to be on watch. Please be prepared and await further instructions.

Thank you,

Jesse Dwyer

Warwick Supervisor
