Mask Mandate for Health Care Facilities Ends Sunday

Mask Mandate for Health Care Facilities Ends Sunday

by M.C. Millman

As of Sunday, February 12, New Yorkers might be able to ditch the masks previously required at doctor's offices, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities.

The announcement was made on Thursday, February 9, by acting New York State Department of Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald during a meeting of the state's Public Health & Health Planning Council.

The announcement is a result of a  steady drop in COVID cases and COVID-related deaths. It also comes on the heels of President Biden's declaration that the federal public health emergency would come to an end on May 11.

Once the State mandate ends on Sunday, healthcare facilities will be able to come up with their own masking plan for patients and staff.
