Male Arrested In New City For Unlawful Gun Possession

On April 2nd, at approximately 12:45 PM, officers from the Clarkstown Police Department responded to a report of three males trespassing and smoking in the laundry room of the New City Garden Apartments, located at 160 N Main St, New City.
Upon arrival, officers found three males sitting on top of washing machines and smoking. After identifying them, the officers conducted a warrant check and found that one of the males, identified as Julio Martinez, 24, of Stony Point, had an active warrant out of Dutchess County for possession of a weapon.
The officers handcuffed and searched him, and discovered a loaded 9mm magazine in the pocket of his vest, as well as a SIG semi-automatic handgun where he had been sitting. It was later determined that the firearm had been reported stolen to the Clarkstown Police Department by the owner just a week earlier. Detectives interviewed the other two males involved and released them thereafter.
In addition to the warrant out of Dutchess County, Martinez now faces additional felony charges, including Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, and Unlawful Possession of Certain Ammunition Feeding Devices.
Julio Martinez was arraigned in Clarkstown Justice Court and where his bail was set at $10,000 cash, $20,000 bond, or $40,000 partially secured bond. He was transferred to the Rockland County Jail at the conclusion of the arraignment.
