Indian Point Siren Notification System Is Shut Down for Good
Rockland Daily Staff

Rockland County Fire and Emergency Services turned off the Indian Point Siren Notification System for good yesterday.

As the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) approved changes to the emergency preparedness plan for the Indian Point Energy Center in Buchanan, a ten-mile emergency planning zone is no longer required. In the coming months, the sirens and poles will be removed as the Indian Point plants are being decommissioned, and the threat of offsite consequences is no longer an issue.

"While our role will be limited," Rockland County Fire and Emergency Services shares,  "Rockland County will still be monitoring the process and responding as needed."
