ICE Apprehends Previously Deported Guatemalan National in Airmont

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers have arrested Yoni Wilfredo Gregorio Ortiz, 44, an illegally present Guatemalan national previously deported from the United States. Ortiz was taken into custody on February 23 in the village of Airmont.
Ortiz originally entered the U.S. illegally on December 10, 2012, and was arrested by the U.S. Border Patrol the following day. He was processed for expedited removal and deported back to Guatemala on January 10, 2013. However, Ortiz later illegally reentered the U.S. without inspection.
Since his return, Ortiz has faced multiple criminal convictions. On September 1, 2022, he was convicted in Spring Valley Village Court of third-degree assault. More recently, on June 3, 2024, Rockland County Court convicted him of acting in a manner to injure a child and criminal mischief.
At the time of his arrest by ICE, Ortiz also had an outstanding warrant for DWI. He is currently being held in ICE custody at Orange County Jail in Goshen, New York, pending further immigration proceedings.
