Hospitals Prepare for Possible Patient Increase Amid Nurse Strikes in Surrounding Hospitals

By Yisroel R.

As nurse strikes are expected at several hospitals in the region, other medical centers say they are getting ready in case more patients are redirected to come to them for care. Hospital officials say these steps are meant to help keep care running normally if other hospitals are affected.

According to hospital officials, Good Samaritan Hospital has added staff and support and is preparing for a possible rise in the number of patients. Officials said teams are ready to continue caring for the community if nearby hospitals see disruptions.

Westchester Medical Center also said it is preparing for more patients, with a focus on emergency care. Officials said extra staff have been brought in to help EMS operations and hospital services. The medical center added that teams across both adult and pediatric hospitals are ready and that it remains committed to serving the region as a Level I Trauma Center.

Hospital officials say they are watching the situation closely as labor talks and strike plans at other hospitals continue.
