Hamaspik of Rockland County Welcomes Senator Weber for Grand Tour

New York State Senator Bill Weber, Ranking Member of the Senate Disabilities Committee, paid a grand visit to Hamaspik of Rockland County, touring multiple program sites and meeting participants, families, and staff to gain firsthand insight into the essential services the organization provides to individuals with developmental disabilities.

Hamaspik of Rockland serves individuals with developmental disabilities across Rockland and Westchester Counties, offering programs from early intervention through adulthood. The agency operates nine group homes in Rockland, four Day Habilitation programs, and four out-of-school respite programs, providing vital support, care, and community integration opportunities for hundreds of families.

The tour began at one of Hamaspik’s Day Habilitation and After-School Respite programs, where Senator Weber was greeted by program members and staff. During the visit, the Senator interacted personally with participants, including one young individual who expressed his dream of becoming a police officer. Senator Weber, whose father and brothers are retired and active police officers, shared how significant that moment was for him.

"It is so meaningful to serve on the Disabilities Committee and to see the great work of Hamaspik of Rockland firsthand," Senator Weber said. "Meeting the individuals in the program and hearing directly from them as well as the staff was incredibly touching. Their strength and determination continue to inspire me in my work on behalf of the disabilities community."

Following the program tour, Senator Weber visited Hamaspik’s headquarters, where he greeted their dedicated staff, many of whom expressed excitement and pride that a state legislator came personally to meet them. The visit continued with a roundtable policy discussion, where current challenges facing families and service providers were addressed. Senator Weber actively listened, took notes, and requested follow-up materials to continue the conversation.

"It was clear that Senator Weber is deeply invested in the wellbeing of individuals with developmental disabilities," Joel Freund, Executive Director of Hamaspik of Rockland said, "As Ranking Member of the Disabilities Committee, he is dedicated to improving systems and processes for families. His visit demonstrated genuine care and intention to make a difference."

Senator Weber extends his appreciation to the staff, families, and program participants of Hamaspik of Rockland County for welcoming him so warmly. The Senator looks forward to continued collaboration to strengthen disability services and support systems in Rockland County and across New York State.
