Governor Hochul Announces 2024 DMV Stats

By Idy Perl

Last week Governor Hochul announced that in 2024 the DMV helped recover more than $11 million in stolen vehicles, parts, services and lost titles. That includes 303 stolen vehicles and $91,979 in stolen parts. In addition, they helped customers recoup more than $3 million in titles, services, and refunds from dishonest car dealers and auto shops.

“New Yorkers who buy a car or who have one repaired, need to know that New York will stand up for them and protect them,” Governor Hochul said. “We work diligently to assist customers, and the DMV works with dealers and repair shops to bring consumers satisfaction. If issues cannot be resolved, swift enforcement action is taken.”

Car thefts remain an ongoing issue across the country, and last October the DMV warned customers to be wary about car sales through third-party websites, and to be vigilant when buying a car online.
