Giant Stairs Trail Closed After Major Rockslide at Palisades Interstate Park

The “Giant Stairs” section of the Shore Trail near State Line Lookout at Palisades Interstate Park in New Jersey has been closed after a major rockfall and landslide made the area unsafe.

According to park officials, the rockslide has created a serious safety hazard, with the potential for additional falling rocks. As a result, access to this popular and challenging hiking area has been restricted until further notice to protect the public.

NJ Palisades park staff are actively assessing and addressing the situation. Officials say updates will be provided as soon as more information becomes available and it is safe to reopen the trail.

Visitors are urged to avoid the closed area and follow all posted warnings and park guidance while the situation is being evaluated.
