Forest Rangers Enhance Skills in Advanced Training Program

By Rockland Daily Staff

Forest Rangers from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation are undergoing specialized training at the Communications Division this week.

The focus of this training is the implementation of in-vehicle mobile data terminals (MDTs) connected to the Division's computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system, overseen by the Rockland County Sheriff's Office. Damian Lennon, a Radio Communications Specialist, serves as the instructor for this program.

The Motorola Solutions FLEX CAD/MDT system offers an array of functionalities, empowering public safety responders to access call information, generate reports, retrieve records, and carry out other essential tasks from any location within Rockland County. This technological advancement marks a significant stride in the operational capabilities of Forest Rangers, enabling them to streamline their response procedures and enhance their efficiency in handling emergency situations.

The Communications Division serves as the central dispatch hub for the New York State Park Police and the New York State Police (Troop F/Haverstraw) in Rockland County, underscoring a unique partnership and coordination between state and county resources. Annually, the Division manages thousands of service calls on behalf of these two state agencies, particularly during the warmer summer months when outdoor activities and recreational pursuits are at their peak.
