Firefighters Battle Two Structure Fires Amidst Strong Winds And Lack Of Water

By Idy Perl

Last night firefighters battled strong winds and a lack of water as they faught to extinguish two structure fires, one in Stony Point and another in New Hempstead.

At around 7:30pm firefighters responded to a fire on Stella Court in Stony Point, where the flames quickly engulfed the entire house. A water main break in the area limited the water available to the firefighters and additional resources had to be called in to fight the quickly growing blaze. The fire was finally brought under control at around 10:45pm, although the house was unfortunately completely destroyed.

Just a bit later, at around 10pm, firefighters in New Hempstead responded to a house fire on Summit Park Road, where strong winds fueled the flames and engulfed the house within minutes. As they fought against the weather, the firefighters were able to get the blaze under control by around 11pm.
