East Ramapo School District to rent Eldorado Elementary School to Camp Elyon

East Ramapo School District to rent Eldorado Elementary School to Camp Elyon

With summer here, day camps around Monsey must find space for their summer programs. And while many local day camps are hosted by vacated yeshivos and girls’ schools, a number of them have been renting space from public schools around the district which stand idle during the months of July and August.

Camp Elyon, a popular boys day camp in Monsey, has been renting different public school campuses for its seventeen years of existence, including Eldorado Elementary School.  But as this summer season loomed closer, things seemed uncertain.

The American Rescue Plan allocated billions of dollars to schools around the nation earlier this year, and local schools are seeking to take advantage of these funds to upgrade their buildings. These funds must be used within two years, and so Eldorado had planned construction over the summer months.

Unfortunately, the project stalled, and they were unable to get the work started for this summer—making room for Camp Elyon to use the space.

The East Ramapo board voted to approve the lease with Camp Elyon during its July 6, 2022 meeting.
