Delivery Driver Opens the Door for Burglary of Two Rockland Homes Days Apart

by Mindy Cohn

The number of incidents in which burglars have posed as delivery drivers have increased lately, with Haverstraw and Stony Point police investigating similar robbery incidents that took place a few days apart just this week.

The two police departments are working to see if the two incidents involve the same thieves or if the victims are connected somehow.

The burglary of a residence on Monday afternoon in Stony Point was accomplished by a group of men, with one of them posing as a delivery man delivering a toy car while checking to see if anyone was home.

After the phony delivery man left, his accomplices burglarized the home by breaking through the dining room window. The two men spent thirty minutes upstairs, leaving with two safes and a large amount of valuable jewelry. The Ring doorbell captured the episode on video.

A similar burglary took place in Haverstraw on Wednesday, December 28.
