Daylight-Saving Time Ends Tonight, at 2am

Daylight-Saving Time Ends Tonight, at 2am

Early Sunday morning, at 2am, will mark the end of daylight-saving time, when we will move back the clock to 1am.

Although the hours of daylight will decrease on Sunday, the good news is that setting clocks back one hour means an extra hour of sleep on Motzei Shabbos.

Some say that the idea of daylight-saving time originated in 1784 with United States Founding Father Benjamin Franklin, who thought setting back the clocks in the summertime in the 1700s could conserve energy.

The idea, however, was not formally adopted until England started turning back its clocks during World War I in 1918 to save energy.

In the US, daylight-saving time was not made into law until 1966.

Now, 70 countries, and all of the US, except for Hawaii and most of Arizona, observe daylight saving time.
