By Y.M. Lowy
Congressman Mike Lawler today brought together leaders from local transit agencies for an in-depth roundtable discussion with Mark Molinaro, Administrator of the Federal Transit Administration.
The event focused on the challenges and growth of public transportation within New York’s 17th Congressional District, which includes Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, and Dutchess counties. The meeting was attended by representatives from the Rockland County's transit agency, and other agencies across the district, including those from Clarkstown, New Square, and Kaser.
The discussion gave transit officials a chance to talk about the needs of their communities and how federal support could help with future projects. They covered issues like overcrowded routes, expanding service to meet demand, and finding new ways to fund improvements for riders.
Local agency leaders appreciated the chance to speak directly with federal officials, noting how valuable open conversation is for solving transit challenges. The roundtable ended with a shared commitment to building a stronger, better-connected transit system for communities across the 17th District.
