Community to Pay Final Respects to Former Tappan Fire Chief Simms

By Y.M. Lowy
Fred Simms spent a lifetime in service to his neighbors, his fellow firefighters, and the broader community. As a former Tappan Fire Chief, Rockland Deputy Fire Coordinator, and longtime FDNY Ladder 58 Captain, he earned deep respect through quiet leadership and steady commitment.
The funeral will be held this week, with fellow firefighters and residents expected to gather at 23 Reld Drive in Pearl River, taking place today from 3 PM to 7 PM. The funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday at 10 AM, at the same location. He will be laid to rest at Ascension Cemetery in Airmont.
On the scene of an emergency, Simms led with calm, strength, and heart. He was the kind of presence others looked to, not only for direction but for reassurance. Fred Simms leaves behind a legacy of service and dedication.
