Clarkstown Partners with National Firm to Modernize Road Paving System

The Town of Clarkstown has approved a new partnership aimed at modernizing how it manages and maintains its roadways, officials announced.

The Town Board recently entered into an agreement with Pavement Management Group (PMG), a nationally recognized firm specializing in roadway assessments, pavement planning, and long-term budgeting strategies. The collaboration is expected to introduce a comprehensive paving management system designed to improve road conditions while maximizing cost efficiency.

As part of the initiative, PMG will conduct a detailed review of Clarkstown’s 288-mile road network, utilizing advanced software and existing Geographic Information System (GIS) data to ensure accuracy and create a reliable baseline for future planning.

The next phase will include the use of high-definition, on-site video technology to capture real-time roadway conditions. The system features automated detection tools that assess pavement quality using a standardized grading scale, allowing for more precise and consistent evaluations. Officials say this approach will reduce the need for time-consuming field inspections and provide a clearer picture of infrastructure needs.

Town leaders say the data-driven system will help prioritize repairs and allocate funding more effectively, ultimately extending the lifespan of local roadways.

Supervisor George Hoehmann called the partnership “a significant step forward” in improving infrastructure management and ensuring safer roads for residents.
