Clarkstown Maintains Top Credit Rating for Strong Financial Management
By Y.M. Lowy
Clarkstown’s financial health continues to stand out in Rockland County. Supervisor George Hoehmann announced that Standard & Poor’s (S&P), a leading national credit rating agency, has reaffirmed the Town’s AA bond rating, the highest in the county, while maintaining a “stable” financial outlook.
A bond rating works much like a credit score for a town. It measures how responsibly local officials manage public finances and how reliably the town can repay borrowed money. A higher rating allows Clarkstown to borrow at lower interest rates, reducing costs for taxpayers when funding major projects such as roads, facilities, and infrastructure.
In its annual report, S&P praised Clarkstown for its strong management practices, including long-term planning to identify new revenue sources, consistent budgeting that keeps operations balanced, and a steady record of operating surpluses. The agency also noted that the town’s debt remains well managed.
Supervisor Hoehmann said the reaffirmed rating is a reflection of careful planning and fiscal responsibility. With its “AA” rating and stable outlook, Clarkstown remains among the most financially sound municipalities in the region.
