Clarkstown Honors Fallen Firefighter in Street Dedication

By Y.M. Lowy

Supervisor George Hoehmann and the Town Board dedicated Lenox Avenue in Congers to George Wohl, a lifelong resident and longtime member of the Congers Fire Department.

Wohl served with the department for 34 years and tragically passed away in the line of duty on December 13, 2003. In addition to his service as a firefighter, he worked as an electrician for Local 363 in New City.

The dedication ceremony was held on the anniversary of his passing to honor his decades of commitment to the community. Many officials joined the Wohl family and friends, including Congressman Mike Lawler, Council Members Graziano and Axelrod, Town Clerk Lauren Marie Wohl, Highway Superintendent Bob Milone, Senator Bill Weber, Legislator Hofstein, and Chief Jeff Wanamaker.

The new dedication serves as a lasting tribute to Wohl’s service and sacrifice for the Town of Clarkstown.
