Clarkstown Dedicates Meeting Room in Honor of Longtime Public Servant Shirley Thormann, First Female Planning Board Member

Clarkstown's Town Board dedicated the Planning Department conference room at Clarkstown Town Hall yesterday to Shirley Thormann, a long-time public servant.

Thormann was the first female to serve as a member of the Town of Clarkstown Planning Board. She served from 1974 to 1983 and again from 2004 to 2018. She was Chairwoman of the Planning Board from 2005 to 2016. Under her leadership, Clarkstown received the Pace University Land Use Law Center Founder’s Award in 2011 and the New York State Planning Federation Comprehensive Plan Award in 2012 for the 2009 Clarkstown Comprehensive Plan.

Thormann also served as Chairwoman of the Town’s Citizens’ Advisory Board on Housing and was an ardent advocate for affordable housing for seniors and those with special needs.
