Chaverim of Rockland Holds Annual Kids Safety Day

By M.C. Millman

It was a perfect day for Chaverim of Rockland's widely popular annual Safety Day: Bike Registration and Fun Fair, which took place yesterday on the fields of Viola Park.

Owners of bikes, scooters, segues, and carriages registered their property with the police department. Registration assists in recovery if any are stolen.

Free reflectors sponsored by the Town of Ramapo were distributed along with free helmets sponsored by Bikur Cholim and  Dr. Steven Fessler. Over the years, the Fesslers have donated thousands of helmets to prioritize safety and encourage Monsey children to wear helmets while riding their bikes.

Demonstrations included a new Chaverim Drone Team-Sar Tac, Chaverim Search and Rescue presentation at the Chaverim Command Center,  and other safety education and awareness demonstrations. Presenters included the New York State Police; Rockland County Sheriff - K9 and Tactical Team; Town of Ramapo Police Department; Spring Valley Police;  New York State Police, and Hatzolah of Rockland, all of whom came together to ensure the safety of Rockland's children come first.

"I had a really spectacular time at the Chaverim of Rockland Bike Registration & Kids Safety Day," Senator Bill Weber shares with Rockland Daily. "Handing out helmets to the children and seeing the Chaverim drone flying overhead was an all-around wonderful experience."

A crowd favorite was the multitude of emergency vehicles with their doors wide open, allowing children to climb inside for hands-on viewing. Children also enjoyed balloon rides, helium balloons, prizes, hayrides, blow-up jumping houses, a bike show, rides, free ices, snacks, and drinks.

"My kids have the best time here year after year," said one enthusiastic attendee. "There is always something here for each of them to enjoy."

The smooth running of the event was coordinated by Chaverim's volunteers, who put in countless hours of hard work before, during, and after the day, once again displaying their continued devotion to the Monsey community.

The day focused on showing children that fun and safety can be combined.
