Ceiling Fans Under Attack by Biden Administration

Ceiling Fans Under Attack by Biden Administration
M.C. Millman

The Biden Administration's green agenda has moved on to the next popular home appliance: ceiling fans.

This news comes after other household applications have been targeted by the Department of Energy (DOE) over the past few months, including gas ovens, washing machines, air conditioners, dishwashers, and most recently, water heaters, as reported by Rockland Daily here.

The DOE has proposed a new rule requiring energy-efficient ceiling fans. According to the DOE's calculations, the proposed requirement would save around $39 over the fan's lifespan. The department also noted that manufacturers would need increased equipment to make this happen, totaling $86.6 million annually.

Republicans and manufacturers are not a fan of this new proposal.

Republicans on the House Committee on Small Business point out that this could put small manufacturers out of business.

"This rule would require numerous small business fan manufacturers to redesign their products and may put between 10 and 30 percent of small business ceiling fan manufacturers out of business," the GOP members of the committee wrote in a letter to Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm. "It appears that the Department of Energy (DOE) may not have properly considered small entities during this rulemaking process."
