Bomb Squad Called After Korean War-Era Ordnance Discovered in Basement

By Rockland Daily Staff

Earlier Sunday evening, Ramapo police responded to a residence in Hillcrest after a piece of old military ordnance was discovered during a basement cleanout. Authorities believe the item may have belonged to a Korean War veteran who previously lived in the home.

Because it was unclear whether the device was still live, officers requested assistance from the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Disposal Unit. The bomb squad arrived on scene, examined the item using specialized equipment, and determined the safest way to handle it. The device was then removed from the home without incident.

Police said the situation was resolved smoothly, and no injuries or damage were reported. Residents are reminded to avoid handling suspicious or unfamiliar items that may resemble munitions and to contact law enforcement immediately if one is found.
