Bird Flu Reaches Rockland County

Bird Flu Reaches Rockland County

By Idy Perl

The bird flu that has rapidly been spreading across the country has now reached Rockland County as well. As reported by Rockland Daily, the current bird flu is more severe than past, similar outbreaks, and has caused the shutdown of several poultry markets and the price of eggs to skyrocket

A few days ago, local health officials confirmed that a wild Canada goose found in a New City lake tested positive for H5N1, the bird flu. Several dead birds were also found in Memorial Park in Spring Valley, and although they weren't tested for the bird flu, recent state health department guidelines say that if a group of dead birds is found it can be assumed that they died from the flu.

Health officials say that humans are at a low risk for contracting the flu, but should be careful not to touch or get close to wild birds, especially if they're found dead.
