Assemblyman Carroll Pushes for Overnight Construction to Ease Haverstraw Traffic

By Yisroel R.

Assemblyman Patrick J. Carroll of Haverstraw announced that he has again called on the Champlain Hudson Power Express (CHPE) project to move its roadway work to nighttime hours following a major surge in traffic along Route 9W. Carroll has been monitoring the project closely in recent months, noting that the construction runs directly through his district and has heavily impacted small businesses and day-to-day congestion.

Carroll said he first urged CHPE in the fall to shift the majority of their work to overnight hours to reduce the strain on local roads. After this week’s extreme traffic buildup, he renewed that request. CHPE representatives have since informed him that they will transition roadway work along 9W to nighttime operations.

The Assemblyman also called for the creation of a fund to help offset losses reported by small businesses affected by the ongoing disruptions. He emphasized that these businesses did nothing to bring on this inconvenience and deserve meaningful relief and long-term solutions.

Carroll stated he will continue working with local leaders to support the business community and push for measures that balance infrastructure progress with the needs of the residents.
