Arrest Made of Teen After School Bomb Threat Swatting Incident in September

By M. C. Millman

After a four-month investigation into a bomb threat made on September 21, 2023, as reported by Rockland Daily here that prompted an evacuation of Suffern High School as well as a coordinated response from multiple law enforcement agencies, an arrest was made of the alleged perpetrator of the swatting incident.

The bomb threat not only closed down the school for the morning, but it also required the quick response of a large team of emergency personnel, including the Rockland County Sheriff's Bomb Squad unit and the  Ramapo Police Department with K9 units.

The arrest of a local fourteen-year-old who initiated the incident was made yesterday after an extensive four-month investigation by the Ramapo Police Investigations Division. The teen was charged with Making a Terroristic Threat and Falsely Reporting an Incident 1st Degree.

The September 21 incident was followed by a second threat called in the day after regarding a chlorine gas leak/device on the location that was most likely a copycat incident, Ramapo Police tell Rockland Daily. An arrest for the second incident was made on September 26, four days later, as reported by Rockland Daily here.

The teen who was arrested yesterday for the original incident has been processed and released pending an appearance in Rockland County Family Court.
