Arrest Made in Slew of Antisemitic Incidents in Rockland County

A young man who sped in a car down a dark Montebello street on Friday night of Chol Hamoed was finally picked up by Ramapo Police for a slew of vicious antisemitic incidents around Rockland County.

A victim in the Montebello incident spoke with Rockland Daily on condition of anonymity. He related he was walking home from shul on a darkened street with other Yidden when the silver Hyundai Sonata came speeding down at over 50 MPH. An occupant of the vehicle began hurling antisemitic epithets at the crowd as well as a liquid that later proved to be soda.

Police were called following Shabbos, and, using surveillance footage from a variety of locations and other pieces of information provided by witnesses, detectives were led to a 17-year-old perpetrator.

It turned out—based on a separate investigation—that this very same perpetrator was responsible for similar incidents in Airmont, in which a pellet gun and other items were lobbed at local Yidden.

The victim conveyed to Rockland Daily the importance of reporting crimes, even if they seem relatively insignificant. “I myself did not intend to press charges in this incident until I realized you never know which other crime it can help solve,” he said.

The suspect was taken into police custody and will be charged in these antisemitic crimes around Rockland County.
