Airport Travel Impacted by NYC Storms

M.C. Millman

As of this morning, hundred of outbound flights at JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark Airports have been delayed and canceled due to intermittent rain, thunder, and lightning.

FlightAware, the largest flight tracking platform, reported 357 total cancellations and 149 delays today at Newark Airport. The platform reported 86 cancellations and 188 delays today at JFK Airport and 223 cancellations and 85 delays today at LaGuardia Airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has warned that summer travel in NY may experience issues due to a shortage of air traffic controllers. This has forced airlines like JetBlue to cancel many New York flights this summer, as reported by Rockland Daily here.

Travelers are expressing extreme frustration over these flights, with many experiencing long delays on Monday before their flights were canceled.

One traveler reported on Twitter here, "The line to get your luggage is 5 plus hours long."
