A Model Response: New Square’s Snow Removal Plan Delivers Clean Streets and Sidewalks
By Rockland Daily Staff
Following the recent snowstorm, the Village of New Square carried out a swift and highly organized snow removal operation focused on safety, efficiency, and thorough cleanup.
The moment the storm ended, the village’s pre-planned snow response system went into action, with direct support from the Town of Ramapo Highway Department, whose units coordinated street-by-street closures to give crews the space and structure needed to work without interruption. Even before the snowfall ended, Town of Ramapo Highway trucks were already active in the village, circulating through the streets to shovel, treat roadways, and spread salt. By the next morning, many roads were already “black,” cleared down to the pavement.
Multiple snow blowers, tractors, and trucks were deployed simultaneously, clearing roadways with force and precision. Streets were left not just passable, but cleaned thoroughly and evenly.
The effort extended well beyond the roads. Sidewalks throughout the village were also fully cleared, ensuring safe walking conditions for residents of all ages and preventing pedestrians from having to step into the street.
Crews also took care to relocate snow to grass areas and designated spaces, rather than pushing it to the sides of roadways or onto sidewalks. This approach helped maintain clear paths and reduced hazards caused by piled snow and slush.
The coordinated operation reflected careful planning, manpower, and execution, resulting in a village-wide cleanup that prioritized maximum safety and accessibility for both drivers and pedestrians.
