Weekend Weather: Rainy First Days of Sukkos Expected
Yisroel R.
Unfortunately, the first days of Sukkos are expected to be rainy this year in most heimishe neighborhoods, including in Monsey, with rain arriving late Friday night and continuing through much of Shabbos and Sunday. The wet weather could make spending time and eating the Yom Tov seudos in the sukkah difficult, before conditions improve for most of Chol Hamoed and the second days.
Friday, Erev Sukkos, will remain dry and partly cloudy, with a high near 71 degrees and breezy conditions. Friday evening is expected to remain mostly dry during the earlier hours of the first Yom Tov seudah, but the chance of rain will begin increasing late at night, with showers possible around midnight and during the overnight hours.
Shabbos, the first day of Sukkos, will unfortunately be rainy and windy, with periods of rain expected throughout much of the day. Rain chances increase around midday and remain elevated through the afternoon and into the evening. Temperatures will remain cool, reaching around 59 degrees, with strong winds of 20 to 30 mph and occasional gusts potentially exceeding 40 mph.
Sunday, the second day of Sukkos, is expected to remain wet and windy, with periods of rain likely throughout much of the day. Rain chances remain high during the morning, afternoon, and evening, with a high near 61 degrees and winds of 20 to 30 mph.
The beginning of Chol Hamoed will unfortunately remain wet, with rain expected Monday and a high near 62 degrees. Conditions should improve significantly beginning Tuesday, with mostly dry weather expected for the remainder of Chol Hamoed. Temperatures will also warm considerably, climbing from around 70 degrees Tuesday into the mid-to-upper 70s Wednesday through Friday, making for much more pleasant Chol Hamoed weather.
Looking ahead to the second days, Shabbos, Shemini Atzeres, currently looks mostly cloudy and dry, with a high near 73 degrees. Simchas Torah on Sunday could bring a few showers, although the current forecast shows only around a 30 percent chance of rain, with temperatures reaching the low 70s.
Have a happy Yom Tov Sukkos!
