Village Of Spring Valley Awarded Grant To Fight Gun Violence
By Rockland Daily Staff
The Village of Spring Valley has been awarded a grant from the Byrne State Crisis Intervention Program to help support efforts to fight gun violence.
The $61,552 grant will go toward the police department's Extreme Risk Protection Order program, an initiative to reduce threats of mass shootings and reduce gun violence through New York's Red Flag Law, which empowers officers to file orders with the court to temporarily remove firearms from people who are deemed to pose a safety risk to themselves or the community. In the last few years, Spring Valley Police officers have filed over 100 Extreme Risk Protection Orders at the Rockland County Supreme Court.
This grant is not just a financial boost, it’s a recognition of the hard work, leadership, and dedication our officers bring to the job every single day.
