TOMORROW: Rockland County to Conduct Wireless Emergency Alert Test

By Rockland Daily Staff

The Rockland County Emergency Management Division announced that it will conduct a live test of the Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) system on Friday, January 9, as part of ongoing efforts to ensure public readiness during emergencies.

Residents can expect a test alert to be delivered to their mobile phones. The alert may include sound or vibration, depending on individual device settings. Officials emphasized that no action is required upon receiving the message, as the notification is strictly a test.

County officials are encouraging recipients of the alert to complete a feedback survey after the test. The survey will help emergency management teams evaluate the effectiveness and reach of the alert system.

The WEA system is designed to quickly disseminate critical information to the public during emergencies such as severe weather events, missing person cases, and other immediate threats to public safety. Regular testing helps ensure the system functions properly and that residents remain familiar with emergency notifications.
