Suspect in Airmont and Chestnut Ridge Attacks Released Following Arraignment Under NYS Bail Reform

By Yisroel R.

Ramapo Police have announced that a 30-year-old Airmont resident was arrested on November 28 in connection with two separate violent incidents that occurred in Airmont and Chestnut Ridge over the past two months. The suspect was later arraigned and released without bail under New York State’s Bail Reform Law, with court dates scheduled in both villages.

According to police, the first incident occurred on October 17 when officers responded to a reported road rage confrontation in Airmont. During the encounter, the suspect allegedly threatened the occupants of another vehicle with a knife before leaving the area.

Police later connected the same individual to two additional assaults on November 26. In the first incident, the suspect approached a man sitting in his vehicle in Chestnut Ridge and punched him repeatedly in what police describe as an unprovoked attack. Moments later, he allegedly assaulted another man who was walking in Airmont. Several children were reportedly present during the incidents.

Detectives identified the suspect as part of their investigation, and he turned himself in on November 28. He is facing multiple charges including two counts of Assault in the Third Degree, five counts of Menacing in the Second Degree, two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree, and three counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

The suspect, identified in previous reports as Shaquille White, was arraigned and released pending his court dates. Under New York State’s bail reform law, the charges in this case are not bail eligible, and the court is required to release the suspect until his future appearances. Orders of protection were issued on behalf of all victims. White drives a red BMW and lives on Rustic Drive in Airmont.

Upcoming Court Dates

His scheduled court appearances are:

• Thursday, December 4 at the Village of Airmont Court for the Airmont cases

• Monday, December 15 at the Village of Chestnut Ridge Court for the Chestnut Ridge case

Authorities encourage residents to remain vigilant and to report suspicious or unsafe behavior to local police.
