Stolen BMW Located in Newark After Shocking House Theft
By Y.M. Lowy
At approximately 4:45 AM on Thursday morning, two masked men broke into a home in Viola area through an unlocked window while the family was asleep upstairs.
The intruders, who appeared to act quickly, grabbed items they found near the entrance, including expensive pocketbooks and Amazon packages. They also discovered the keys to a BMW parked outside and fled the scene in the stolen vehicle. Among the possessions inside the car were the homeowner’s tallis and tefillin.
In an unusual twist, one of the suspects even spit out a piece of gum inside the home, leaving behind what police say could be valuable DNA evidence.
Ramapo Police and Chaverim of Rockland are actively investigating the case. The homeowner, who spoke to Rockland Daily, shared how the suspects seemed to pull into the driveway, notice the open windows, and then enter the home. He described the ordeal as frightening, given how close the intruders came while his family was asleep.
The stolen BMW was ultimately recovered in Newark when the thieves abandoned it after a police chase, thanks to the coordination between Ramapo and Newark Police and Chaverim of Rockland Security Team. The investigation into the suspects is still ongoing.
