Senate Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins Attends Fundraising Event in Rockland for Former Senator Reichlin-Melnick

By Rockland Daily Staff

Rockland Daily reported on NY Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and former Senator Elijah Reichlin-Melnick visit to Rockland County yesterday, where they toured the city and met with local residents.

They concluded their visit with a fundraising event at a resident’s home. Local community leaders and politicians attended the event to discuss their ongoing relationship with the community.

Several Jewish community leaders thanked Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins and former Senator Reichlin-Melnick for their support of the community and spoke about the importance of having the right people in charge who can advocate for and be an ally to the Jewish community in Rockland.

“For far too long, we didn’t have a seat by the table, and therefore, we were on the menu,” Legislator Aron Wieder joked. “That’s why it’s extremely important that we send the people who can get a seat at the table.”

"On behalf of everyone, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you!" Izzy Spitzer, Mayor of New Square, said, sharing a recent story highlighting the Leader’s support. "We were at risk of losing everything in our private schools in the Town of Ramapo," Spitzer said. "With only four days left in the session and so much to address, the Leader assured us, ‘I will do everything you need us to do.’”

“Even though there are some things that we disagree on, I believe very firmly that the fundamental things we agree on are far more,” Reichlin-Melnick said. “We all want to see lowered taxes, our families living in safe neighborhoods, and want our children to be educated in the way we want them to be and not as dictated by others.”

His words were met with applause from those in attendance. He continued speaking about the importance of making New York welcoming to people of all races and religions and mentioned some of the projects he had brought funding to that benefited the community.
